MSC Vertriebs has introduced a quick-start kit for embedded Linux system designs using AMD’s single- and dual-core Embedded G-Series APUs. The kit includes one of three MSC Qseven COMs (computer-on-modules), a baseboard, bootable Linux in flash, and (optionally) an XGA-resolution LCD.
Built to Qseven v1.2 specs, the 70x70mm MSC Q7-A50M COM is offered with a choice of single- or dual-core AMD T40 or T16 series APUs, with CPU clock rates up to 1GHz. The APU’s powerful graphics support is based on an integrated AMD Radeon HD6250 GPU, which supports dual-independent video output at up to full-HD resolutions, and compatibility with OpenGL 4.0, DirectX-11, and OpenCL 1.1 graphics standards.

Key features integrated on the Q7-A50M COM, as listed by MSC, include:
- One of three AMD G-Series APUs:
- T40E Dual-Core, 1.0 GHz, 6.4W TDP
- T40R Single-Core, 1.0 GHz, 5.5W TDP
- T16R Single-Core, 615MHz, 4.5W TDP
- AMD A50M I/O Controller Hub
- Up to 4GB DDR3 SDRAM
- Up to 32GB soldered-on flash memory
- VIdeo outputs:
- 2x SATA-II interfaces
- Gigabit Ethernet
- 8x USB 2.0
- HD Audio
- 4x PCIe x1 ports
- Size — 70 x 70 mm, Qseven v1.2 form-factor
- Power — +5V @ 7-9W (depends on APU model)
- Operating temperature — 0-60° C
AMD’s Embedded G-Series APUs combine an x86 CPU plus a “discrete-level” GPU, within a single component, as shown in the block diagram below.

The kit’s Q7-A50M COM comes in three flavors, depending on selection of AMD G-Series APU, among: G-T40E Dual-Core APU, clocked at 1GHz; G-T40R Single-Core APU, clocked at 1GHz; or G-T16R Single-Core, clocked at 615MHz. The kit includes Linux pre-installed in the COM’s on-board flash, a suitable thermal heatspreader or heatsink, an integrated power supply, and various cables.
