Eurotech’s rugged “ReliaGate 10-11” IoT gateway runs Linux on a TI AM3352, offers numerous options, and is supported with an updated ESF 3.3 framework.
Eurotech, which is known here mostly for its Intel Atom-based Catalyst computer-on modules, has announced a new version of its ReliaGate Internet of Things gateway. The ReliaGate 10-11 runs on a Linux stack based on Yocto Project 1.6 and Linux Kernel 3.14, and is supported by a newly updated, Java-based Everyware Software Framework (ESF) 3.3 for remote IoT device management.

The 140 x 95 x 45mm ReliaGate 10-11 offers IP40 protection against ingress, supports -20 to 70°C operation, and targets industrial and automotive applications. It offers a wide-range 9-36 VDC power supply with transient protection and “Vehicle Ignition Sense.”
An earlier, ESF-supported Atom Z510-based ReliaGate adopted Intel’s IoT Gateway design. This one however, uses an ARM-based Texas Instruments AM3352 Sitara, a Cortex-A8-based SoC clocked to 800MHz. The low-power SoC helps the gateway achieve typical power consumption of 15W peak and 2W idle, says Eurotech.

The ReliaGate 10-11 is equipped with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of eMMC flash and a user-accessible microSD slot. The system is so highly customizable, we’re skipping the feature chart, but a spec table is available on the product page. Note that you can’t choose all the options a la carte, but rather choose from five available SKUs.
Standard features include 4-lane, optoisolated DIO, dual, surge-protected RS-232/RS-485 ports, and a serial console. You also get a battery-backed RTC, watchdog, LEDs, and reset and user buttons.
Optional features include one or two 10/100 Ethernet ports, and wireless radios with antennas, including WiFi, Bluetooth LE, RSMA, GPS, and 3G. (Eurotech would prefer you use its ReliaCell 10-20 for 3G.) A micro-SIM slot is also available.
You can choose between two or three noise- and surge-protected USB ports, and an optional pair of CAN ports. A temperature sensor is standard, and an accelerometer is optional. Branding and personalization options are also available.
ReliaGate 10-11 is supported with Eurotech’s Everyware Software Framework, one of the earliest Linux-ready IoT frameworks. Based on a commercial, enterprise-ready edition of Eclipse Kura, the new ESF 3.3 is an open source Java/ OSGi middleware stack for IoT multi-service gateways and smart devices. ESF provides services for Java developers building applications for IoT gateways, including I/O access, data services, network configuration, and remote management.

Version 3.3 improvements include more efficient and granular over-the-air (OTA) software updates, as well as an Instant Activation wizard for fast OTA provisioning of remote devices. Eurotech also updated the Java VM to Oracle Java SE 8, and added SSL Mutual Authentication for secure connections with remote servers or IoT cloud platforms, such as Eurotech’s Everyware Cloud.
