Linux-friendly Celeron based 3.5-inch SBC has four GbE ports

Dec 14, 2015 — by Eric Brown — 3,909 views

Aaeon’s GENE-BT04 spins Intel’s Bay Trail Celeron SoCs into a 3.5-inch SBC aimed at networking and signage, with four GbE ports and dual HDMI ports.

Despite its similar name, 3.5-inch form factor, and Intel Bay Trail foundation, Aaeon’s new GENE-BT04 is significantly different than the GENE-BT06 single board computer announced in September. Whereas the GENE-BT06 is a general purpose workhorse, the GENE-BT04 is aimed at networking and signage applications.

The GENE-BT04 is limited to two Bay Trail Celeron options: the quad-core, 2GHz (10W TDP) Celeron J1900 and the dual-core, 1.16GHz (4.3W TDP) N2807. Compared to the earlier board, it doubles the number of Gigabit Ethernet ports to four, the HDMI ports to two, and the RAM to 8GB. Otherwise, The GENE-BT04 has a more limited feature set. There’s only one COM port, one mini-PCIe slot, and three USB ports. SATA and CFast storage are also available.

The fanless, 12V board runs at a standard commercial temperature range. No OS support was listed, but the GENE-BT06 offered a Yocto Project based Linux distribution in addition to Windows, and we’re confident the GENE-BT04 runs Linux as well.
