Fanless Mini-ITX SBC packs high-end Intel Skylake SoCs

Commell launched a “LV-67S” Mini-ITX board with Intel 6th Gen Core S-series and Xeon CPUs, up to 32GB RAM, dual GbE, quad SATA, and five display outputs.

The “LV-67S” Mini-ITX single board computer equipped with Intel’s 6th Gen (“Skylake”) Core S-Series and Xeon processors. The board is aimed at graphics intensive, but fanless, embedded systems including high-end signage, kiosks, gaming, surveillance, medical, defense, transportation, and industrial automation devices.

Previous Commell Mini-ITX boards have included the very similarly configured LV-67M, which used 4th Generation “Haswell” Intel Core processors. As with the LV-67M, no operating system support was listed aside from a Windows Embedded logo, but Linux should work just fine.

We’ve already seen a number of Linux-ready, Skylake-based Mini-ITX boards, most of which, like the recent Congatec Conga-IC170, run lower-end, more power-efficient U-series Core models. Like Advantech’s AIMB-275 board, the LV-67S goes for the top-of-the-line, power guzzling S-series in Core i7/i5/i3 varieties, as well as the related Skylake Xeon series, all of which fit into an FCLGA1151 socket H3. Like the mid-range H-series, the S-series requires a separate I/O chipset, in this case the Intel C236

No specific CPU models are listed except for the server-class Xeon-E3-1200, which is used both by the AIMB-275 and the Arbor ITX-i89H0 Mini-ITX boards. The fastest S-series Core i7 supported by Advantech is a quad-core Core i7-6700 clocked at 3.4GHz (4GHz Turbo), with 65W TDP, 8MB cache, and 4K-ready Intel HD Graphics 530 graphics.

The LV-67S has twice the RAM as the Haswell-based Commell LV-67M, and it uses the faster DDR4 RAM instead of DDR3L. Aside from the RAM, and the much faster processor, the boards are very similar. Features include four SATA III ports with RAID support, dual mini-PCIe slots with optional mSATA support, and a PCIe x16 slot.

Coastline ports include dual GbE, four USB 3.0, RS232 and RS232/422/485, and an audio jack, with many more headers available internally. You also get back-panel HDMI, DisplayPort, and DVI-I ports, along with internal LVDS and CRT connections.

Specifications listed for the LV-67S include:

    I don’t understand the title : it just looks like a regular mini-itx motherboard, so it doesn’t seem to be a SBC…
    Though it could be used to build a fanless PC (just like any other motherboard), i don’t understand why this caracteristic appears in the title.

      There’s no conflict between motherboard (aka mainboard) and single-board computer. The latter term was originally coined to denote boards that do not need any plug-in expansion cards to be fully functional. Here at, we tend to think outside of the PC box, in that mini-ITX boards, like other form factor SBCs, are often used as controllers for non-PC applications and projects.
