Free embedded computing conference posts agenda

Jan 12, 2015 — by Rick Lehrbaum — 549 views

The RTC Group announced the agenda and keynote topics for its annual Real-Time Embedded Computing Conference (RTECC), to be held Jan. 22 in Santa Clara, Calif.

This year’s RTECC includes a pair of morning keynotes, an afternoon of conference tracks covering a wide range of embedded, industrial, and IoT-oriented topics, and an evening reception. There’s also a full-day exposition area, packed with exhibits from more than fifty chip, board, system, and software suppliers. And of course, all attendees are invited to enjoy the RTECC’s customary delicious free lunch (seriously!).

“Tomorrow’s Internet of Things will be built as an orchestration of hardware and software platforms, many of which will be built on Linux,” states the RTC Group in its RTECC event announcement. Attendees will have the opportunity to grab a copy of the most recent free RTC Magazine, featuring a cover that asks: “Linux: Can it run everywhere?”

Morning keynotes feature IoT topics

A pair of IoT-oriented keynote talks takes place in the morning. Here are brief descriptions of each:

  • Embedded Community and IoT Leadership — 9:00 to 9:45AM — by Chris Rezendes, of INEX Advisors — One perspective on IoT positions it as the “instrumentation of the physical world.” If IoT is the instrumentation of the physical world, then IoT solutions must successfully manage the intersections where carbon meets silicon, analog meets digital, physical meets virtual. Is this not the essence of embedded computing, control, and communications? … In this talk, we will explore the market realities of IoT and how the embedded technology community has, is, and will play a critical roll in defining, developing and deploying IoT.
  • The Rise of the Machines: Exploring the System Build — 10:00 to 10:45AM — by Richard Scafuto, of Verizon Wireless — The complexities of building an end-to-end Internet of Things system are often underestimated. In the context of a real system build, this presentation will parse out the elements of the system, discussing the nuances of each. We conclude with a presentation of the services Verizon can provide to assist the system builder.

Reflecting the heated competition between x86 and ARM processor architectures in embedded, mobile, and IoT systems, both Intel and Freescale are prominent RTECC sponsors. A full list of companies exhibiting at the RTECC expo is available here.

A complete schedule of all talks and events is available in the detailed RTECC agenda.
