Mentor Graphics released a GENIVI 5.0 version of its Linux-based Automotive Technology Platform IVI stack that supports Sourcery Analyzer profiling.
Based in part on MontaVista’s GENIVI-compliant in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) distribution, the Mentor Embedded Automotive Technology Platform (ATP) was released in April. In September, it was updated with an integrated version of Jungo Connectivity’s multimedia player middleware, and in October, Mentor Graphics announced a related Mentor Embedded Hypervisor that can work together with ATP and other IVI and telematics systems to enable multiple VMs running on each core of a multicore SoC.
The new version of ATP is said to be “fully instrumented,” thereby enabling the use of the company’s Mentor Sourcery Analyzer for profiling purposes. Analyzer can profile the entire embedded IVI system, including fast boot and graphics performance, says Mentor Graphics. The upgraded ATP release also provides a Virtual BSP for host-based development and testing, says the company.
Otherwise, the release is principally concerned with expanding support for windowing and graphics technologies. These include the X11 and newer Wayland windowing environments, as well as the Qt. 5.0 framework, and unstated “new GPUs”.
The new ATP is compliant with the similarly GUI-focused GENIVI 5.0 release, joining other 5.0 compliant stacks like Accenture IVI Base Platform, LG Automotive Platform, and Renesas Electronics Platform for IVI. Many other GENIVI-compliant distributions have yet to upgrade, including the Tizen and Wind River stacks. Specifically ATP has achieved GENIVI 5.0 compliance for the Freescale i.MX6, Texas Instruments OMAP5, and Renesas Marzen H1 system-on-chips. ATP is also now fully Yocto Project 1.5 compliant, says the company.
“Our experience working with Tier One suppliers drove us to simplify profiling of Linux based IVI systems and the identification of bottlenecks by developing instrumentation in the kernel and graphics layers,” stated Glenn Perry, general manager of the Embedded Software Division of Mentor Graphics.
The GENIVI 5.0 compliant version of Mentor Embedded Automotive Technology Platform is available now. More information may be found at the Mentor ATP product page.
